My Aged Care’s Help Explorer
The Australian government provides a variety of services that support the living of elderly. However, these benefits are often not fully accessed as many people are not aware of the availability or the usefulness of services.
To help people learn and receive the care they need, My Aged Care has introduced Help Explorer. This is an online tool that features stories of people who have accessed government-funded aged care services. These stories outline their lives before and after receiving the help and how much difference it has brought to their lives. By having a glimpse into the lives of people in similar situations, you and your senior can seek appropriate support.
My Aged Care’s Help Explorer can help you:
- Find out about people in similar situation as yours
- Learn what steps are involved in receiving government-funded aged care
- Understand the services available that support your needs
So, how does it work?
- Find the Help Explorer on My Aged Care’s ‘What help is available’ page.
- Scroll down to find the full list of stories to explore.
- To discover stories that are the most similar to your circumstance, use the filter. There are 2 ways you can use the filter:
a) Click the ‘Start here’ button. Then, tick the areas you need help with. This will automatically display the stories most relevant to your preference.
b) Click the ‘Filter by service’ drop box. Here, you can select the areas that apply to you. Click ‘Update filter’. This will automatically show stories and services that match your current situation.
After reading other people’s stories, you may wish to take a step further. To access services, you need to first apply for an assessment and check your eligibility. To learn more about this, check out our previous blog post: ‘Government Funding: Am I eligible?’
