Government Funding: Am I eligible?
When seeking help for you or your loved senior, you will be wondering whether you are eligible for government funded aged care.
To check for your eligibility, the first step is to go through an aged care assessment, which is conducted in person at your home.
However, there is a quick and easy way to find out if you would meet the requirements. This is My Aged Care’s Eligibility Checker.
How does the Eligibility Checker work?
My Aged Care’s Eligibility Checker is an online tool that helps people quickly check if you meet the requirements before applying for an official assessment. It consists of a few short questions that help My Aged Care understand your circumstances.
Questions will focus on how well you can complete daily tasks such as eating a meal, walking, getting dressed and so on. You must answer questions with honesty to get the most accurate result.
After completing your answers, the checker will confirm whether you are fit for an aged care assessment.
Who would be eligible?
You may be eligible for government funding if you have:
- noticed a difference in your abilities or memory.
- received a diagnosis for a medical condition or experienced decreased mobility.
- encountered changes in family caregiving arrangements.
- recently had a fall or have been admitted to the hospital.
To qualify for assessment, you must meet some requirements. Please check:
- The level of assistance you need with everyday tasks
- That you are 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people)
If you meet the requirements and have conducted the Eligibility Checker, you can apply for an assessment online.
A trained assessor will then contact you to arrange a time for a home visit to carry out an assessment.
During and after the process, you can discuss with the assessor your circumstances, needs and appropriate services that suit you best.
